It’s rare to come across something simplistically new which isn’t tied to technology in some way. Joshua Allen Harris has utilised the air currents generated from subway tunnels below NYC. By attaching his plastic-bag sculptures to the grates, they come alive for a brief moment, no doubt scaring the living crap out of anyone walking past.
His feats are impressive - from loch ness monsters to centaurs and polar bears, and it’s easy to look into it conceptually too - a city’s own breath, the life that a city allows for, representations of lifespans. It’s wonderfully simple, childlishly amusing and works on so many levels - just as a great work of art should.
