Urbex - Aradale Mental Asylum

Date: 20/09/2008
Location: Aradale Mental Asylum
Where: Ararat, Victoria

We took a lovely trip out to Aradale Mental Asylum .. or Hospital. or Psychiatric ward. Or whatever you want to call it. It was fascinating on so many levels. I felt excited at the “beauty” of the place… and needed to keep reminding myself of what what it really was - a sobering realisation in its own right.

a project about inspiration

I’m thinking of putting together a mini video - 30 seconds long, of some photos i’ve taken in this style. They’re so soaringly vast, so open-up-your-arms-and-stand-at-the-end-of-the-world, which is what i was going for, really. I hope it isn’t too airy fairy to alienate people. But anyway, I want the copy to read something like this:

Since taking my photography up a notch over the past years, i keep coming across new things that blow my mind. There seems to be this list of things that some people have known about for years, but others haven’t at all. Things like HDR (High Dynamic Range) - those hyper-real images where there’s detail in the shadows and the highlights. 99 wolves

99wolves

This.. is positively odd. Hunting around online is just link after link without much info.. this has appeared on everything from the Telegraph, to we-make-money-not-art. It popped up in 2006 at the Deutsche Guggenheim in Berlin and shows 99 wolves leaping through the air and crashing into a glass wall.

the great unboxing

So this is where i say Hello World! Yeah? Where’s my turtle that draws a circle? Pah, there used to be a strongly-defined point to Pandemic60. It turned into a link-frenzied trend-orientated page (like the 70 million others out there)… not really what I had in mind. But it’ll be abit more personal this time around - links you may have missed, or some new tech that’ll bring up some new thoughts. Being a bit of a photographer on the side, i’ll post a few shots that don’t make it onto my flickr, too…

Fun times!
